Art Gallery Opening

On Saturday 1st July 2023, the only dedicated art gallery in Fenland opened its doors for the first time. Situates in the grand Georgian-style Grade II listed building of Octavia View, along the South Brink in Wisbech, the art gallery was opened by Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, the Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP.

He commented on the importance that art plays in our mental health and wellbeing as well as inspiring creativity and enhancing society overall. He said it was important that art was made more accessible, not just to the elite few, or those living in cities, but to ever part of society. He was pleased that this initiative, led by Backfield’s Creatives in partnership with the Ferry Project was providing this in the Fenland area.

The art gallery will be open, free of charge to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Entrance to the gallery is found along the South Brink. The current collection will be available to view until October.

Artworks currently on display are from a variety of local artists covering a variety of styles and media including sculpture, oil on canvas, pointillism, abstract art and many more.
