Bringing Home the Bacon
On Saturday 20th July 2024, the doors of the Queen Mary Centre opened at 8am to welcome people to the Big Bacon Buttie Breakfast - a fundraising event that formed part of our 25th Anniversary Jubilee Celebrations.
With sizzling bacon hot off the pan, prepared by Alison Crouch, our Ferry Project Cookery School tutor, attendees enjoyed a tasty breakfast of bacon rolls and hot drinks.
The inspiration for the event came from the fact that the Ferry Project clients enjoy getting together for special 'bacon buttie' breakfasts in the hostel, and the hope was that this event would share this experience with the community.
A total of £100 was rasied and this will go into the client's 'Days Out Fund' where it will be used to pay for social and recreational activities for the homeless clients the Ferry Project work with. This helps to improve mental health and builds a sense of community and belonging as well as helps to boost self-esteem, all of which are an important part of helping someone to move from homelessness to independent living, giving them a fresh start in life.
Thank you to all who came along and showed their support.
