Colin's Story

My name is Colin*. I was in my fifties when I separated from my partner. I had nowhere to go so she let me sleep on her sofa for a time, but eventually she asked me to leave. My poor mental health meant I was unable to work, so I ended up living on the streets.

I came to the Ferry Project for help. They gave me a room in Destiny Haven, their emergency accommodation, and together we created a support plan.

At first, I felt anxious about wasting the doctor’s time, but with encouragement I visited the GP about my mental health. That first step led to me meeting regularly with a mental health nurse, who gave me the professional support I needed.

Over time, my mental health began to improve. I have now settled into Mill Close, The Ferry Project's accommodation designed for those who are almost ready to live independently, and I am feeling more comfortable in my surroundings. Ferry Project continue to support me and look forward to seeing me thrive as I move forward into independence.
